Birthplace of the Czech Philharmonic
It was in the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House that the Czech Philharmonic gave its first public concert on January 4, 1896, conducted by Antonín Dvořák. This historic event marked the birth of one of Europe’s most respected symphony orchestras.
Although the Czech Philharmonic is now based in the neighboring Rudolfinum, the Municipal House remains a place of special significance: concerts are regularly held here, including performances during the prestigious Prague Spring International Music Festival. The Smetana Hall, with its exceptional acoustics and unique atmosphere, continues to inspire musicians and audiences from around the world.
